Healthy Aging : 5 Fitness and Activity Tips For Seniors

Do you wish to remain fit and healthy even as your age advances? As a smart senior, you can be young from within and maintain physical fitness if you really wish to do so. 

Here are some tips that can help you in your journey of healthy aging: 

Health Check – It is important to get a medical evaluation done to begin timely treatment for any existing illness. Take medications for your health conditions and follow your physician’s advice regarding rest, mobility, rehabilitation and exercises. 

Be flexible – Practice flexibility exercises for movement of joints, which improves mobility and keeps your body supple. Stretching exercises that give a gentle pull to your muscles, improves their elasticity, help to reduce soreness and also helps to prevent injuries. Yoga, under expert guidance is a good option.

Improve your strength – With increasing age, you may need to work more to maintain your muscle strength and overall stamina. You can improve your strength by working on your muscles with light weight training and muscle strengthening exercises 2 to 3 times a week.  

Work on balance and coordination – Improve your balance and coordination to prevent falls and boost your confidence while moving. Practice standing on one leg, walking backwards or perform yoga for balance. 

Choose interesting physical activity – Remain active by doing physical work that gives you pleasure like gardening, strolling in a park, walking down the market, cycling or swimming. 

The most important thing is to never think you are getting old and do whatever your health permits you to do. You are sure to enjoy a fit and active life.
